Latest update on our Complaint Handling Reviews
We support learning and improvement in the way police deal with complaints made by members of the public.
During May 2026 we delivered six complaint handling reviews and:
examined 24 separate complaint allegations
made eight recommendations to policing bodies
identified eight learning opportunities to improve standards
We also highlighted good practice:
a complaint handler had kept detailed records of their investigation, and we encouraged other handlers to follow this same approach.
And we set out areas for improvements such as:
the need for handlers to provide officers with an opportunity to respond when a member of the public complains about them.
We aim to publish as much information as possible about our work.
Summaries of some of our reports can be viewed on our website here.
