The Complaints
The complaints in this case arose when police officers attended a report of a domestic incident involving the applicant and her husband. The applicant’s complaint relates to how one of the attending officers interacted with her.
We have reviewed the handling of one complaint, namely that:
• An officer questioned the applicant’s mental health.
Police Scotland’s Decision
Police Scotland did not uphold the applicant’s complaint.
Our Findings
We have found that Police Scotland did not handle the applicant’s complaint to a reasonable standard.
Consequently, we have made a recommendation and identified three learning points. Specifically, we have recommended that Police Scotland revisit the complaint to ensure that the correct subject officer is identified, and to provide the applicant with a further response. Our learning points relate to the administration of the complaint.
Our recommendation and learning points should be implemented by Police Scotland within two months of the date of this report.
