The Complaints
The complaint in this case arose after police officers attended at the applicant’s home address regarding a police interview. In March and April 2026, the applicant was reported to the police by his ex-partner for posting information pertaining to her online, in breach of his bail conditions. Officers attempted to trace the applicant to speak with him about the report. On 7 April 2026, a calling card was left for the applicant at his home address providing information regarding a prearranged interview at the police station. We have reviewed the handling of one complaint, namely that:
• Officers harassed the applicant by attending at his home at 3am.
Police Scotland’s Decision
Police Scotland did not uphold the applicant’s complaint.
Our Findings
We have found that Police Scotland did not handle the applicant’s complaint to a reasonable standard.
Consequently, we have made a single recommendation to address the shortcomings in Police Scotland’s handling of the complaint. In summary, we have recommended that Police Scotland conducts further necessary and proportionate enquiries into this complaint and provides the applicant with a further complaint response letter.
We have also identified a learning point relative to Police Scotland’s administration of the complaint.
Our recommendation and learning point should be implemented by Police Scotland within two months of the date of this report.
