Report - Police Scotland - PIRC/00666/25 & PIRC/00902/25
The Complaints
The complaints in this case arose after the applicant made reports to Police Scotland about repeated incidents at his property, involving his neighbour and other individuals, over several years. These included an allegation of wilful fire‑raising on his property, reports of harassment, and damage to his property. The applicant believed these matters were not properly investigated or addressed.
- There was a lack of investigation into crimes the applicant reported to Police Scotland from April 2021; and
- Police Scotland failed to deal with numerous reports the applicant made to the police about being harassed by his neighbours.
Police Scotland's Decision
Police Scotland did not uphold the applicant’s complaints.
Our Findings
We have found that Police Scotland did not handle either of the applicant’s complaints to a reasonable standard.
Consequently, we have made a recommendation to address the shortcomings in Police Scotland’s handling of the complaints. In summary, we have recommended that Police Scotland contact the applicant about complaint 2. Thereafter, Police Scotland should inform the applicant of the outcome of any further enquiries into the complaint.
